Firstly, go for a stroll and discover the friendly market town of Brampton, “a beautiful Cumbrian town where heritage meets nature" www.discoverbrampton.co.uk
Brampton is a friendly market town in the NW of England, Cumbria. North of the magnificent Lake District National Park and your gateway to Hadrian’s Wall and The Historical City of Carlisle. An ideal location from which to explore stunning scenery and tremendous history.
So much to see and do:-
Local shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants are just a stroll away and Hadrian's cycle route 72 travels not far from your door. Brampton and Eden Golf clubs, as well as, New Mills Trout Farm and Walby Farm park are all within easy reach as is stunningly beautiful Talkin Tarn Country Park with its level walk around the tarn, tearoom & water activities. On the edge of Brampton you will find historical and magnificent Lanercost Priory with its walk to Birdoswald Roman Fort, your gateway to Hadrian’s Wall. Tindale Tarn and RSPB bird reserve are just over 3 miles away with lovely walks, great bar meals, at The Belted Will, superb coffee, cake, and supplies at The Hallbankgate Hub. The Pennine Way, just 8 miles to join at Greenhead with its stunning walks and scenery. Historical and vibrant City of Carlisle, 10 miles, history, castle, museum; shopping; pubs; restaurants; The Sands Centre (sport, swimming and entertainment); cinema and so much more. Carlisle has it all! Then don't forget Vindolanda Roman museum and spectacular Holstead’s Roman Fort, built in AD 124. Or within easy reach travel to the spectacular walks up Aira Force, Lake Ullswater and the outstandingly beautiful Lake District National Park. There are also beaches well within an hours drive, such as Powfoot, The amazing Dumfries and Galloway Coast and Silloth on Solway. A little further you will find the beautiful Northumbria coast. While there why not visit the fantastic City of Newcastle with its metro centre, shops, music, sporting venues and so much more.
Good public transport nearby:
Brampton Railway Station is under 10 minutes by car/taxi or can be walked to along a "The Dandy" footpath (just before S & S Railhead Garage) off Station Road. The path winds up to the railway station, walking through the wood and underpass. Here you can access trains into Newcastle and Carlisle or stop off at one of the towns or villages on route, such as Haltwhistle with its lovely open-air pool and Hexham with many shops and beautiful walks.
Regular buses from the Sands, just at the end of Tree Road or Brampton market place will take you into Newcastle or Carlisle.
