Great stay in cottage, comfortable, spotless and well equipped. Weather not best but dodged rain on the whole. Bus to Newcastle, Hexham worth a visit, Abbey stunning. Bus to Carlisle then train to settle, magnificent views would recommend. Walk to Talkin Tarn beautiful. Walked through Gelt Woods lovely. Had a lovely time. Shirley and Alan a nice friendly couple. Thanks for such a good stay. Recommend: Talkin tarn beautiful. Hexham Abbey. Carlisle to Settle train through stunning countryside and quaint stations.

A lovely return visit to the cottage in Brampton. Another fantastic stay, thank you once again. Despite the changeable weather I managed to stay mostly dry, completed Hadrian's Wall. explored Caerlaverock Castle and nature reserve, wandered around Whitley Bay and coastal footpath and the scenery at Kielder Water. Finally visited Falkirk Wheels and the kelpies, rounding things off with a local wonder up to Talkin Tarn. Recommend: Food at the Sally in Irthington was lovely.

An immaculate, beautiful bungalow. A very quiet, relaxing location. Thank you Shirley and Alan for the lovely welcome treats and especially those for our grandson. We have had a great break, the added bonus being the good weather. The walk into Brampton town centre was an easy 10 minutes. We enjoyed having a wander and the bacon sandwiches at Cranstons were lovely. We also had a trip to Ullswater and Pooley Bridge.

Moved to this beautiful cottage while having some work done at home. The cottage is tucked away in a lovely peaceful part of town. The bungalow is immaculate and provides for every need. Thanks very much Shirley and Alan also for the welcome basket and flowers. Recommend: Talkin Tarn, 5 minute drive or pleasant walk, is beautiful.

Warmly welcomed by Shirley and Alan on arrival. The cottage is wonderful; spotlessly clean, well-equipped and comfortable. It is the perfect base for exploring the area which has so much to offer in walking, history and culture. Recommendations: Carlisle by bus, Carlisle Cathedral - wonderful and the guides provide lots of details. Cathedral cafe lovely. Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery. St Martins church Brampton for its stunning stained glass windows.

We enjoyed our stay in Aysgarth. We were welcomed with daffodils, mini Lindor Easter eggs and ice creams as it was such a warm spring day. We had everything we needed and more and were delighted to find such a wealth of walking leaflets. Recommendations: Vindolanda was amazing even though it hailed. From the cottage we walked to Talkin Tarn, to Lanercost Priory through lovely wood that will be awash with blue bells soon and also Gelt Bridge to Greenwell and back. Wonderful scenery everywhere.

This is the perfect place to explore the area. We will Definitely come back here to this lovely cottage! Recommendations: The Howard Arms Inn for dinner (just a walk into Brampton). Whytes bakery and kitchen, St Mary's Gate in Carlisle for lunch. Bookcase (second hand books everywhere!) and Cakes and Ales for coffee/tea and cakes, Castle Street in Carlisle.

I used the cottage to act as a base to walk Hadrians Wall and visit friend in Carlisle. It was lovely and clean and had everything I needed. There is so much to see and do locally so I will be coming back for another stay. Recommendation: Cranstons the butchers has so many lovely things and is well worth a visit. The “AD122 Hadrians Wall bus” is very good from Greenhead and further east to Hexham.

Lovely well equipped cottage. Really warm welcome from Shirley and Alan. Had a lovely week although weather could have been better. This bungalow is really well situated in a quiet area and less than 15 minute walk into Brampton. Recommendations: Star Arnise Indian Restaurant and The Howard Arms. We like bird watching and walking and recommend RSPB reserve at Geltsdale, Gelt Woods and Talkin Tarn. We also visited Lanercost Priory and Tea Room (best in England 2023) food excellent, especially the cheese scones.

We all decided to stay here as Kate was completing an archeological dig at Magna Fort. She found some interesting items including a small link of armour. We’ve had a lovely stay here, the house was wonderful and we love the area here!. Thank you for having us. Added to our cottage guest book:- A wonderful 5 days relishing the fabulous views, all on the doorstep. Thank you Shirley and Alan for the goodies and the perfectly equipped cottage. The slow cooker was very much appreciated after a long day out walking it was a pleasure to smell our dinner all cooked and ready to eat. If you love the great outdoors and want to get away from it all then this is the ideal location, so peaceful and quiet and the owners are at hand if you should need them, lots of information inside the property about the location and all the walks either on the doorstep or a drive away, some nice pubs too" Recommendations: Lovely local fish and chips (The Roosters) great views at Talkin Fell circular and Duke of Cumberland pub stop after Hadrians Wall and Sycamore Gap circular. We've enjoyed watching the antics of the sheep in the field behind the bungalow and the many blue tits (and one day, a flock of long tailed tits) in the trees and water bath to the side - lovely! The bungalow is in a great location to visit so many places. It must be the cleanest holiday accommodation we have every stayed in !! Recommendations: Hexham esp. forum cinema and the vegetarian cafe; Carlisle Cathedral; military road drive - beautiful scenery - also drive to Barnard Castle via Alston. Geltsdale RSPB beautiful and stop at the community cafe at Hallbankgate (lovely scones). Gisland for walk along The Wall (free parking, right opposite walk) is excellent. Too many to fit in. All English Heritage sites have something to offer - super little video at Birdoswald, gives a good sense of how the wall would have looked.

A really first class holiday stay. Alan and Shirley have made it very comfortable with little extras as well. Many thanks for the welcome treats, another nice thought. We loved it here and would certainly recommend it. Recommendations: Bus to Carlisle is a good break from driving. Kirkoswald, a lovely little village. Walk Ravenbeck 4.5 miles, refreshments in the little community shop. Gelt Woods is a must. Talkin Tarn is on your doorstep. Lanercost Priory, walks and lovely lunches. Brampton serves most of your needs.

We had a wonderful stay at this cosy home in Brampton, Cumbria. The house was spotlessly clean, thoughtfully designed and well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One of our favourite moments each day was returning from our outings, sipping coffee and soaking in the stunning scenic views through the large framed windows. The location was centrally located with easy access to beautiful hikes and nearby attractions. Highly recommended for anyone visiting here.

Very lovely, spotlessly clean 😊 We really appreciate the comfortable beds and quality linen. All very well appointed, lovely and warm. Well equipped kitchen. Plenty to do and see, whatever the weather. Thank you for all the attention to detail, it is clear that you really care for this cottage. Recommendations:- We enjoyed the surprise of the Sarah Losh Heritage centre in Wreay. It looks closed but you push on the door and all the lights come on. A lovely use of heritage lottery funding. Similar St Mary’s Church at Wreay. Keswick, lovely town and boat trip on Derwent Lake. Talkin Tarn is beautiful! Quick trip to Scotland - Rockcliffe and Kipford - both stunning.

Bungalow in excellent location for visiting places of interest and lovely walking areas. Will recommend to friends and family. Handy for Gretna Green where we had Civil Partnership Ceremony, wonderful experience and lovely day. Meal and walk at Powfoot coast and Sandpiper Café, sea view was perfect. Recommendations: Brampton Village shops have everything - Spar and Coop, pharmacy, post office, fish & chips - lovely and nearby. Lovely walk from here through Gelt Woods and babbling river, gorgeous with autumn colour - takes you to Talkin Tarn back along The Dandy. Gilsland circular walk, took in Birdoswald Roman Fort. Lanercost Priory and church worth a visit, 3 and half mile circular walk to Lanercost Priory with teashop, toilets, very nice. Powfoot coast and sandpiper café, Dumfries near Gretna.

Wonderfully equipped cottage and beautifully clean. Fabulously comfortable beds. Great location - visiting the Lake district is so easy and Hadrian's Wall too. Talkin tarn is really close too with walks, activities and even baby swans. Thank you for the welcome basket, a very nice touch. We would recommend visiting "Drunken Duck" not far from Ambleside.

A perfect location for discovering Hadrian's Wall and The Lake District. Very comfortable accommodation within easy walking distance of the market town of Brampton with everything we needed for our self catering holiday. Just a few miles down the road is Talkin Tarn a beautiful country park with an easy circular walk of approximately 1.3 miles. Would love to return to visit all those places we didn't get time to visit in a week. Recommendations: Ullswater Steamers from Pooley Bridge, best ahead of time and there before 10.30am as limited parking. Roman Army museum and Vindolanda book online for discounts ahead of your visit. Ravenglass and Eskdale railway, although a journey time of approx 90 minutes is well worth the effort.

Very comfortable, well-equipped, good shops in walking distance. Lots to do without driving far, indeed some lovely walks right from the house. We have enjoyed our first stay in Brampton to see family. The bungalow is very comfortable, slept well and everything was fine. Lots of walks in the area, plus visit Carlisle to see the castle, museum and cathedral. Hadrian's Wall was very interesting, and The Roman Museum and The Sill very good.

Back again and as ever a very comfortable stay. Warm and cosy, the log burner a bonus. Such peaceful nights sleep in a comfy bed. We continue to highly recommend this holiday home. Location, facilities, great hosts. We recommend you visit Kielder water and forest. Even on a wet day, lovely to visit. Suggest drive via Longtown and Newcastleton and then back via the old military road. You will not be disappointed with the lovely countryside and views.

We had a great stay. the cottage is clean, well-equipped and in a fantastic location. Easy to get to The Roman Wall, Lake District and lots of great walks nearby. Very quiet, lovely to be away from light pollution and see the stars at night. The welcome basket was a lovely treat. Recommendations: Talkin Tarn - an easy walk there and around, great cake. Talkin Fell and Cairns - can walk from here. Lanercost priory - definitely worth a visit. St Martin's Church - beautiful design and windows. Gelt Woods - just down the road. Hallbankgate community shop & café. Look out for film nights at Brampton Community Centre.

Lovely cottage, very clean and comfortable. Alan and Shirley very friendly and helpful. We had a relaxing week and got out every day, despite some bad weather. Recommendations: Carlisle by bus - cathedral worth a visit. The Bookcase second hand book shop nearby on Castle Street, just amazing and lovely café "Cakes and Ale". Hexham Abbey also very nice. Roman Army museum very good. Lovely walks around Talkin Tarn. RSBP Gelsdale Visitor centre, lovely walk and quite remote, interesting with nice views.

This cottage sets the new standard by which all other cottages will be measured. Super clean, friendly welcome and great treat basket, very quiet with comfortable beds. Shirley and Alan have put so much effort into making this cottage a home from home. The fridge is rather small but we managed. A central location from which to explore all of the below places. Recommendations for future guests: Talkin Tarn, Solway Aviation Museum, RSPB Geltsdale, Kielder Forest, Derwentwater boat trip and walking around Keswick in The Lake district. Gelt Wood for woodland walk and streames. Hadrian's Wall - Sycamore Gap (The Sill). Phew! And Roman Museum highly recommended.

Although Brampton is only a small town, it is an ideal base for exploring both the Lakes and Borders area and is a mere 1 hour from Newcastle Upon Tyne if you wish to look for bright lights. The bungalow was well designed and scrupulously clean on arrival, with nice welcome touches. Overall, highly recommended.

We had an extremely comfortable stay in this lovely cottage. It is well placed for all the attractions this lovely part of the country has to offer. The weather has been amazing, which has been such a bonus. We enjoyed Gelt Woods and Geltsdale Bird Reserve. Would highly recommend Vindolanda and The Roman Army Museum. Also Pooley Bridge ferry to Glenridding on Ullswater. Lanercost Priory is interesting and the tea room is worth a visit. We walked The Dandy Line and visited Talkin Tarn :-)

We have really enjoyed our stay at Aysgarth (Wall and Lakes Holiday Cottage) - the hosts were on hand if we needed help. 100% recommended. In the area we recommend:- Walking at Gelt Woods. Bird watching at Geltsdale (RSPB) - saw our first Marsh Harrier and Campfield Marsh on the Solway Firth. For pre-Raphaelite lovers, St Martins Church at Brampton is a gem. Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery (Carlisle) - fantastic resources, for all ages.

We've had the most wonderful time here. "Aysgarth" is lovely, clean and so well equipped. The welcome basket especially appreciated. "Asygarth" is close to Ullswater, a special place in itself and we found Talkin Tarn a gem, especially a big hit with our grand-daughter :)
