Public Transport:

There is plenty of public transport nearby...

Brampton Railway Station (with even more regular trains in 2026!)

Brampton Railway Station is under 10 minutes by car/taxi.

Alternatively you can also walk along 'The Dandy' footpath (just before S & S Railhead Garage) off Station Road. The path winds up to the railway station, walking through the wood and underpass in about 45 minutes.

From Brampton train station you can access trains into Newcastle and Carlisle or stop off at one of the towns or villages on route, such as Haltwhistle with its lovely open-air pool and Hexham with many shops and beautiful walks. 

Many guests also use this railway line when walking sections of Hadrian's Wall and Brampton taxis can be contacted to drop off/collect if required.  

Regular buses

Regular buses from The Sands, just at the end of Tree Road, or Brampton market place will take you into Newcastle or Carlisle and beyond.  These local buses, such as the 685, from Brampton can also link in with the AD122 Hadrian's Wall bus at Greenhead, for those wanting to explore Hadrian's Wall on the Northumbria side of the border.  

NEW FROM JANUARY 2026 !  The HW1: Reay's coaches now provide an hourly, daily, bus service from 08.45am until 4.45pm from Brampton up to Lanercost Priory, Birdoswald Roman Fort and Waltown Accessible Country Park (with a stunning section of The Wall and an amazing view !) and Roman Museum as well as other stops at Roman sites of interest.  This bus links in with the AD122 if you want to venture further into Northumbria.  Check out their full timetable with Cumberland Council here

There are also a number of local taxi companies in and around Brampton. 

And if you are walking sections of the wall and carrying heavy bags, then we recommend Hadrian's Bags who will be happy to transport your bags for you, dropping them off and collecting them directly from Wall & Lakes holiday cottage.
