Who runs Wall and Lakes Holiday Cottage?
We are Alan and Shirley Jones and have lived in the Brampton area all our lives. In 2022 we started our small independent business and have successfully managed, maintained and cleaned the cottage ourselves ever since.
How does the booking process work?
All bookings are initially provisional with no payment required for 48 hours. A 15% deposit is only required to hold your booking, with full payment due 6 weeks before your stay. You can book securely online through our website or over the phone if preferred.
Do I have to pay any extra commission or booking fees?
No. Unlike large agencies, when you book direct through this website you do not pay any extra fees or commission. The price you see is the price you pay. You will be asked for a £100 refundable security/breakage deposit, which is standard practice and clearly shown before you submit your provisional booking. We aim to refund your security deposit within 7 days after your holiday.
How are payments taken and is it secure?
Payments are taken securely online via Stripe, a leading payment provider, or over the phone if preferred. We use Bookalet, a professional booking platform, so you can clearly see availability and prices with no hidden charges.

What accreditations does Wall and Lakes Holiday Cottage hold?
We have been awarded Visitor Ready status, through Visit England,, which requires us to provide copies of up-to-date documents such as our Fire Safety Risk Assessment and insurance details please see the QR code on our Find Us page. We are also members of PASC (The Professional Association of Self Caterers), with a copy of the membership certificate available in the cottage.
What policies do you have in place for guests?
We aim to be fully compliant and have all necessary policies in place, including Accessibility Guidance, Booking Terms with a clear cancellation policy, a Respect Policy, and a Privacy Statement. Copies are available on this website or just ask if you have any questions at all.
How many guests can stay and how are the beds made up?
The cottages sleeps 4 people. Both bedrooms have king sized beds, one can be divided into two singles beds if requested in advance.
Is parking available at the cottages
Yes, up to two cars in the cottage driveway.
Can we bring pets?
Sorry, No pets are allowed at the cottage.

Yes! Talkin Tarn; Gelt Woods; Lanercost Priory & Hadrian's Wall from your doorstep. On Hadrian's cycleway route 72, cycle storage. Hadrian's Wall; Lake District; Pennine Way; Dumfries & Galloway coast easily accessible. Ask local owners & information in the cottage.
Is the cottage available for short stays?
Yes, we offer flexible short stays from a minimum of 3 nights. Please check availability and book now. Just ask if you have any questions.
Is the cottage accessible for those with mobility concerns?
Steps with handrails to both entrances. Shower above the bath. Inside level access to all rooms except one step into the porch. Parking by the cottage. Please see video/photos and our Accessibility Guidance below.

Local shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants are just a stroll from the cottage in the market town of Brampton — check out the Discover Brampton website. A great location for walkers and explorers, including Hadrian's Cycleway on your doorstep.
Brampton and Eden Golf Clubs, New Mills Trout Farm and Walby Farm Park are all within easy reach, as is peaceful Talkin Tarn Country Park with its level walk around the tarn, tearoom & water activities. On the edge of Brampton you will find the magnificent Lanercost Priory (English Heritage) with its walk to Birdoswald Roman Fort — your gateway to Hadrian's Wall. Tindale Tarn and Geltsdale RSPB bird reserve are just over 3 miles away with lovely walks, a country pub, and a superb village shop and café.
The Pennine Way is just 8 miles at Greenhead. The vibrant City of Carlisle, 10 miles, offers a castle, museum, shopping, pubs and restaurants. Don't forget Hadrian's Wall including Vindolanda Roman Museum and the spectacular Housesteads Roman Fort, built in AD 124.
Within easy reach are the spectacular Aira Force, Lake Ullswater and the Lake District National Park. Beaches within about an hour's drive include the Dumfries & Galloway Coast and the Northumbria coast. The City of Newcastle offers the Metro Centre, shops, music and sporting venues.
