Hadrian's Cycleway Route 72

Route 72 goes straight through the market town of Brampton, so access to this amazing cycle route is right on your doorstep. The visitlakedistrict.com website is a good place to check out the Hadrian’s cycleway (route 72) and its 174-mile breath-taking journey.

For the adventurous completing the whole route Aysgarth cottage provides the perfect place to stop off for a well-deserved break, a good halfway point, from the start at Ravensglass or South Shields. A great opportunity to relax and unwind for a few days before setting off again.

Alternatively, the less adventurous of us can base ourselves at Aysgarth and explore sections of this cycle route, such as the part from Brampton to Haltwhistle, which takes in many places of outstanding countryside and historical wonder.

There are also loads of spectacular cycle tracks in the Lake District to explore.

And don’t forget there are plenty of quiet roads around Brampton and the outlying villages that will reward you with beautiful views, why not try one of these routes taken from Bikemap.net or Cycle Northumberland.

Want more challenging biking?

We are just over an hour’s drive to Kielder Water visitors centre and forest. Here you can get involved in serious mountain biking as well as off-road routes suitable for all the family. Many of these trails take you to remote and outstandingly beautiful parts of the National Park. Remember your waterproofs, sandwiches and drinks or call in at the pub in Kielder village at the north end of the reservoir.

Closer to hand there is also the Brampton – Haltwhistle tour which is a challenging 47 miles although very rewarding for the experienced cyclist. Check out this and more routes on visiteden.co.uk
