Talkin Tarn a great place to visit from Wall & lakes cottage, Cumbria
Where is a great place to visit in Cumbria: Perfect for walkers and families?
Wall and Lakes holiday cottage, Brampton, Cumbria is near to stunningly beautiful, peaceful Talkin Tarn. With its level footpath around the tarn, water activites, tea room, toilets and playground for younger children.
So, settng off out of the cottage you can amble along to Tree Road where you can turn left and walk along the road, left at the cottage hospital and up towards Talkin Tarn, this is a slightly quicker and a more even roadside route. Although you can also turn right preferring the quieter, countryside route. At the end of Tree Road (oppositie the garage) you then turn right onto Station Road. From here strolling towards the signpost for 'The Dandy' footpath, "station 1 mile", just before S & S railhead garage, this footpath takes you under the main road to charming, historical Brampton Railway Station. On another day you can catch trains from Brampton junction into Newcastle or Carlisle from here, although thats an adventure for another day:-) Walking along The Dandy, you travel through pretty woods which can be just a little uneven underfoot and muddy, at times, especially during the autumn and winter months. Personally, we love this walk during the autumn with the beautiful golds, reds and browns of the leaves, falling to carpet our footpath as we walk up towards the station.
You will arrive at the railway station with its beautiful old fashioned feel and iron footbridge knowing it is just about a mile from here to rewarding Talkin Tarn. Enjoy walking over the railway bridge with its old fashioned feel and elegance. Then turning right out of the station and along the quiet road, watching out for a few cars and farm vehicles, the hedgerows and fields are full of colour and chatty little birds. About 500m down the road you will see the footpath sign for Talkin Tarn, it is hiding next to a large farm gate and rough track.
As we you get closer to Talkin Tarn the track goes to the left, although you take the path to the right as this brings you more directly to the Tarn.
Now you are rewarded with a level easy walk around the tarn, with its amazing wildlife and absolutely stunning scenery before calling in for coffee and cake. Often we reward ourselves with a deliously ice cream but today, in the autumn sunshine, you may opt for the comfort of cake :-) It may have taken you just under 2 hours at a very lesuirely pace to reach the tarn as you amble along and 'bench hop. Or perhaps you have completed the walk much faster?
Taking time to sit by the lake side the beautiful views will amaze you, what a wonderful day out!
